Superior Town Center

There’s still a lot of hope that Superior’s town center will become a reality in 2009. At least that’s what Superior town staff is telling us.

Town manager Scott Randall commented to the Superior Observer newspaper recently that “The vision will makes sense, but the market makes it difficult,” “it will happen, it’s just a matter of time.”

The word on the street is that the Superior Town Center may take up to a decade to complete, once it actually begins. That’s about as long as it took to build all of the homes that currently make up Rock Creek.

Developers first began Rock Creek in the very early 1990’s, which was really the impetus for all that followed with Superior Marketplace, the Safeway anchored commercial area, and to some extent Flatiron Crossing Mall.

I remember taking diversions on my route to or from Boulder to ride my motorcycle on what was once known to bicycle riding enthusiasts back ‘in the day’ as the morgul bismark route. You may remember the Red Zinger Bicycle Classic, which later was renamed the Coors Bicycle Classic for its new sponsor.

That route took race participants south along McCaslin up to Hwy 128. The final stretch of that piece was called ‘The Wall’. In those days it was a quiet and relatively unknown stretch of road, and the piece from the Boulder Turnpike (Hwy 36) up to the top of the hill was single-lane.

Well, there’s a little bit of history for ya. We’ll see how long it really takes for the development of that 135 or so acres between the old Superior Cemetary and the Ice Rink… I’m thinking though that with Conoco Phillips and all that goes with it, we might not see it taking a full decade to come to fruition. There will be lots of people looking for places to live and buying real estate in our area.

If you’re thinking of selling your home, or know someone that’s thinking of moving. Please call or email me with questions or comments. The market’s busier than you might think, and I’d love the opportunity to talk to you about it.
