IHOP Returns To Superior

The International House Of Pancakes (IHOP) is returning to Superior this week. The restaurant will reopen in the same spot it occupied until about four years ago, just across from Buffalo Wild Wings near Costco and Target.

As many Superior area retail buildings see a typical constant flux of tenants in and out of their commercial space, getting a national name like IHOP back into this busy corner must be a relief.

This location began as an IHOP in about 2001 and lasted for a few years before closing and reopening again as Mama’s Cafe. That effort was short-lived. The property has sat vacant for quite some time as has other nearby retail spaces including the failed Help-U-Sell limited service real estate office.

With the closing of Denny’s across the highway in nearby Centennial Valley in Louisville, those wanting a lower-priced breakfast meal had few choices. Mimi’s cafe and Le Peep near the Flatiron Crossing Mall in Broomfield were the next option for breakfast fare.

It will be interesting to see if the community can or will support the new IHOP. Considering that two prior efforts failed, I wonder if there is enough demand for this type of restaurant in this location.

Perhaps with the pending change in the local economy looming, due to ConocoPhillips’ purchase of the Storage Tek property, and the ancillary positive impact expected, things will turn out just fine for this and many other businesses in the area.
