Boulder Restaurant Building Sold

There’s a building on Broadway in downtown Boulder that recently sold, and I’ve always been a little puzzled why so many businesses have failed in this location. I think it’s been empty more often than it’s been filled.

Back in the 1980’s I think I remember it being a Chinese restaurant, and then sometime a little later I’m pretty sure La Estrellita was in there for a while, it was a decent family-owned Mexican restaurant that lived in a couple locations back in those days, but I’m guessing that the world-famous margaritas at the Rio finally became too much competition. Perhaps?

Now the local media reports that the next business to try its luck will be an Australian Pub. I hope it works. It’s a really cool location with creek-side terraced seating. Although if the new owners renovate that may get a major overhaul, we’ll just have to see what they put together for the new venture. Now, where to park?…

The increase of residential units in the immediate downtown area may help sustain another restaurant in a location like this, but if you plan to drive, don’t expect easy parking right next to the building. Take advantage of one of the downtown parking garages, which are free on the weekends, and walk the short distance.

If you venture over before the pub is open, you can always pop across the street for an authentic Chicago Style hot dog at Mustard’s Last Stand; which is another local landmark. If you have a photo of another hot dog stand or unique hot dog restaurant from around the country, or globally for that matter, bring it into Mustard’s and they’ll post it on the wall, and you might even get something for free, so just ask!

Don’t forget, parking isn’t free on the streets on Saturday, only Sunday, so use the Parking Garages and park for free on Saturday, it’s only a block or two from a garage to just about any downtown eatery.
