Boulder Naked Pumpkin Run

nakedpumpkin.jpgWhat would you think if you saw a person running through the streets naked with a pumpkin on their head? Actually, it should be called the naked jack-o-lantern run since I don’t think the pumpkin head would work too well as a helmet without being carved into a jack-o-lantern.

The Boulder-born halloween event has spread throughout the country now to places like Seattle, Phoenix and Bloomington (Indiana).

An excerpt from the Naked Pumpkin Run :

What does it mean to be a Naked Pumpkin Runner? Certainly there is no single answer to this question, and throughout the glorious NPR history, we have run with many different kinds of people who ran for many different reasons. But there is something unique about this event that transcends the traditional college streak. Though symbolized by the pumpkin, the unusual aspect of the run is actually the spririt and goodwill of the runners themselves. Far from being hooligans and trouble makers, the Pumpkin Runner has always been a beacon of loving and progressive thought, willing to challenge not only their own ideas about freedom and compassion, but to extend those challenges to society as a whole. As a result, the Naked Pumpkin Run serves as a training ground for loving and artistic cooperation.

In 2004, they picked a night with less than favorable weather for the 6th annual, Boulder Colorado, Naked Pumpkin Run

No wonder Boulder has a rep for being ‘alternative’.
