Tom’s Tavern Building Gets New Restaurant

The building on the northwest corner of 11th and Pearl streets in Downtown boulder, formerly occupied by Tom’s Tavern, will have a new restaurant soon.

Local Boulder real estate developer, Steven Tebo has purchased the building and has plans to restore the building to reflect its architectural style as it was built around the turn of the century.

If you’re a fan of The Full Moon Grille, Chautauqua Dining Hall, or most recently Colterra restaurant in Niwot, you will probably be excited to know that the same man behind much of the culilnary success of these popular Boulder restaurants, Bradford Heap, is going to be driving the focus on the new restaurant in Tebo’s building.

Heap has indicated that he intends to keep the prices reasonable, continue his trend towards fresh, seasonal ingredients, and to maintain a laid-back style to the new restaurant. What I heard is that he wants a very approachable feel to the new business similar to the way Tom’s was — welcoming people from all walks of life to come together and to maintain a strong community feeling. It’s a refreshing thought in the midst of our recent trend of pseudo-elitist eateries.

Colterra is supposed to continue serving its superb menu in Niwot. If you haven’t yet stopped in to Colterra’s, this would be a great time to get a taste of what Heap’s talents offer, and perhaps a hint of what’s to come to downtown Boulder. Colterra has a wonderful outdoor eating arrangement on the patio with huge trees and lucious lawns. It’s a perfect setting for a late summer evening meal.

Three days ago Lachlan-McKinnon & Co was going to tear down the old building and build a new one for Frasca and some condos. What happened?

Got something to say?
