Superior Colorado Going Green

Town Of Superior ColoradoThere are continued rumblings about the Town of Superior adopting programs and steps for making its municipal buildings more green.

There’s no real mention, or attempt to compare to Boulder’s smart-grid program, or Kyoto Protocol issues, but it does seem that Superior Colorado has its own good ideas about saving energy and becoming more self-sufficient.

The market still feels stable in Superior, and efforts like the Superior Town Board’s “Live Green” goal continue to make it a sought-after place to live for many folks.

The two projects on the schedule for completion this year for Superior include converting parking lot lighting to LED bulbs, and also the installation of solar photo voltaic systems on seven of the eight Town of Superior facilities.

The town is financing this through a grant from the Governor’s New Energy Communities Grant. That’s how they’ll cover the costs of the 43 parking lot light’s converstion to LED.

Expected energy consumption reduction is almost 33,000 kWh per year, and the CO2 offset is anticipated to be about 32 tons annually. According to the town Mayor, Andrew Muckle, that’s like planing 9 acres of trees, or getting five cars off the road in the same year.

The Town Hall and South Pool buildings are two of the seven facilities getting photo voltaic (PV). In all the CO2 offset for the PV is expected to be almost 345 tons annually.
