More On Boulder Smart Grid City

Boulder demographics are one of the reasons that Boulder was chosen as the “poster child” for the SmartGridCity program .

What we heard at the Boulder Tomorrow meeting was that the education level in Boulder was generally high, which led the powers that be to decide that this would be an indication that there would be citizens willing to participate and engage in the program.

There are also some other technology and infrastructure items that made Boulder attractive.

Smart Grid, and energy efficient housing trends interest you? Why not call, text, or email me so we can help you match your interests in green building with your real estate plans.

The infrastructure items that make Boulder an attractive city for the Smart Grid solution include Boulder’s existing 100+ miles of fiber optic cable already in place, the 15,000 or more two-way electricity meters already installed in Boulder homes, and the fact that the substation, distribution and commercial systems that Xcel says we have which are about 45% complete.

One of the audience members at the Boulder Tomorrow presentation asked if this was perhaps simply a ‘spiritual journey’ given that crude oil is still holding at around $50/barrel.

The Xcel answer was that we need to think of our future, the environment, overall energy use and what it means for not just out-of-pocket costs today, but what it means for us globally on many levels.

Someone made a comment that now that the ‘Genie is out of the bottle’ in terms of thinking there’s a need to move forward with these kinds of overall lifestyle patterns and energy management and energy use philosophies, how can we consider putting the genie back in the bottle at this point.

It reminds me of the words I’ve often heard from Bruck Oreck when explaining why he had the Next West house built, and what it means to him in terms of future generations of our children and grandchildren.

Call, text, or email me soon and we can talk more about how your personal and lifestyle needs might we met when you’re ready to buy or sell real estate in the Boulder area. I look forward to talking to you, and meeting you in per5son.
