Louisville Colorado #3 best place to live: Money Magazine

Money Magazine ranks Louisville, CO #3 in their top 100 best places to live in 2007.

With a vibrant downtown district loaded with lots of charm and residential real estate selling for an average price of a little over $300,000 Money Magazine puts Louisville, CO near the top.

Louisville, CO was founded in 1882 by immigrant coal miners, and the old wooden buildings downtown still give the place the feel of a small frontier town, says Money Mag.

Once upon a time, I heard a friend who still works in Boulder, CO refer to Louisville as “losersville” back in the 1980’s. Now times have changed and this Boulder Valley community has become a peaceful haven for those who crave the front-range Colorado lifestyle but don’t feel it’s necessary to drop a half million dollars or more for a typical single-family home like is typically found in the nearby Boulder, CO real estate market.

I continue to find that people appreciate the quality of life and the small town feel of Louisville. There’s an excellent range of home styles and price ranges to suit most buyers. With it’s proximity to amenities ranging from Denver’s LODO and Golden Triangle nightlife, the Boulder Valley suburban foothills hiking and biking experience and top tier shopping such as Flatiron Crossing surrounding it, Louisville is one of the Boulder Valley communities that keeps on delivering for my buyers and it’s current residents.

Louisville’s roots in it’s history of coal mining are missed by some newcomers but are a sense of pride to long-term residents and local historians. In August 1877, the Welch Mine opened in Louisville, the first of many coal mines to come. Louis Nawatny, a local landowner, platted his land and named it for himself. The Town of Louisville was incorporated on June 16, 1882.
