Longmont Gets Memory-Loss Care Center

Know anyone struggling with Alzheimer’s disease, or another memory-loss related illness? You’ll then be glad to know that Longmont will soon see a special 56-apartment facility called the AltaVita Memory Care Center.

The facility is specifically dedicated to those who are dealing with memory loss.

Oriented around clients who have very special and specific needs such as those who are affected by Alzheimer’s disease, the locally-owned and family oriented facility will include a 36,000 square foot complex, with an inner courtyard, and four pods extending off of the courtyard.

The facility is scheduled to open in April.

According to the AltaVita website:

AltaVita Memory Care Centre was designed to address all the issues related to memory impairment illnesses in a comfortable and secure home-like setting. We believe providing quality memory care includes all aspects of everyday living, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. We strive to provide the best services, dining, amenities, living spaces, and engaging and stimulating activities for those with memory-related illnesses. Our care plans are tailored to each individual’s needs and desires. Our goal is to involve family members in their loved ones’ care so they may feel comfortable, confident and assured of the care their loved one is receiving. We strive to make family members feel not only welcome but genuinely pleased with the care our professionals provide.

An explanation of the hummingbird symbol used by AltaVita:

Few birds fascinate us as much as the hummingbird.  They open our eyes to the wonder of the world and inspire us to open our hearts to loved ones and friends. As we sought inspiration for our AltaVita community for seniors, we walked the grounds prior to construction. Hummingbirds were abundant, and the adoption of this colorful, energetic, long-living bird, with its tenacity and elusiveness, seemed fitting.

As we age, frailties may emerge, yet the tenacity of the human spirit endures. Throughout our grounds, we will foster this relationship with our hummingbird neighbors, to delight our residents and remind us that life is rich and every personal connection has meaning.

I hope if you have someone important in your life who may need special care due to memory loss, you’ll look more closely into the AltaVita Memory Care Centre. In this time of aging ‘baby-boomers’ we’re finding it’s more important than ever to address the health care needs of our families.
