Jefferson Parkway, Superior… C470?

Up to now, the town of Superior, Colorado has been rather contentious about the proposed paths for the last part of the 470 highway system which eventually will complete the path between C-470 in Golden, Colorado, and the Northwest Parkway which connects Superior and Broomfield, near the ConocoPhillips property, with E-470 at I-25. Rock Creek residents in Superior are concerned about the noise and traffic impact on their community.

Superior’s planning commission has had several closed-door sessions, and at least one standing-room-only Planning Commission meetings which considered the issue of the highway.

Superior, Colorado Andrew Muckle suggested recently that the town of Superior take an official position to oppose the Jefferson Parkway, according to a recent local newspaper article, and the article reported that the town board seemed to generally agree with Muckle.

The conflict seems to be in the details about which path the road would take, and its effect on the community.

The proposed tollway would begin at Colorado Highway 128 in the Interlock area of Broomfield, Colorado, not far from the Flatiron Crossing mall, then run south along the eastern edge of the Rocky Flats Wildlife Refuge.

From there, the plan is for the highway to head southwest over to an interchange with Colorado Highway 93 just north of Golden.

It seems like it’s all still very much up in the air, but in my humble opinion, finishing the circumnavigation of the Denver metro area with 470 would be a transportation blessing.

Thinking about buying a new home, getting ready to sell, or know someone who plans to move? I think we should talk.

Agreed! As someone who did the commute from Lakewood to Boulder on scary 93 for a year, I think the long term benefits to transportation and highway safety will be well worth the potential extra traffic.

The proposed Jefferson Parkway is flawed in too many ways…
