Foreclosure Prevention Workshop

If you are concerned, or maybe just interested, in how the foreclosure process works, there’s a workshop coming up that you may want to attend. See the link at the bottom of the page for more information.

There are many myths and preconceptions about home foreclosures and most people don’t really have a clear idea about how the process works or, more importantly, how to prevent foreclosure, other than the obvious: make your payments on time. In some cases, that’s not much help, is it?

Boulder County staff is putting on two foreclosure-prevention workshops; one in Boulder and the other in Longmont. Both workshops will be in early June. They are free to Boulder and Broomfield residents, and no registration is required.

The workshops are oriented to providing people help if they’re having trouble making their mortgage payments and especially if they’re already missing payments.

If this is you, or someone close to you, I think you should take the time to check out this free resource. Don’t get caught up in your preconceived notions about how the process works. Instead, why not learn how to make the most informed decision about how to proceed? The Colorado foreclosure laws have just recently changed and we’re smack dab in the middle of two different overlapping foreclosure laws. I think you’ll benefit from some straight answers in these classes.

If you go, you will get a chance to review the Colorado foreclosure process and timeline, and you’ll get to discuss the options available to you as a borrower. There are different stages in this process and your choices will be vastly different depending on where you might be. If you’ve missed one payment, missed several, or perhaps you already are getting notices from an attorney representing the lender; in each case you will have different options that you need to understand.

Learn how to initiate a conversation with your lender and what the lender will need from you to possibly consider such things as a “short pay” or a redemption.
