Boulder May Allow Electric Bikes

The City of Boulder Colorado may just let us use electric bikes on the Boulder creek path soon.

Well, as you might imagine there’s some controversy about this in the community. It is Boulder after all, and that means that not everyone agrees with what’s best for the group… so to speak.

Proponents claim that it’s only reasonable that the electric bikes be allowed as they’re just as safe as other bikes, and that electric bike users should have access to the multi-use paths in the area.

Opponents feel that the electric bikes are larger, and heavier and pose a risk to other users of the path system that includes walkers, babies in strollers, people with wheels on their feet (yep there are still some of those running around), joggers and the ubiquitous uber jocks practicing for one leg of their triathlon coming up again this weekend.

Ultimately this will have to be approved by the Boulder City Council and it’s looking like it’ll be part of a pilot program before any permanent changes occur for non-auto traveling Boulderites.
