Boulder County Oil And Gas Development

oil and gas drillingResidents of Boulder County may soon see oil and gas development even though the county has tried to prevent drilling and exploration for a very long time.

The county is currently being sued over the moratorium on oil and gas development that’s about to expire on May 1st.

The county may also have some legal battles about the regulations the Boulder Board of County Commissioners passed last month.

oil and gas2Boulder county has been working hard to block oil and gas production in unincorporated Boulder County since February 2012. One the moratorium expires in May, the county is once again supposed to start processing applications for new oil and gas drilling.

Currently there’s an active lawsuit challenging the legality of Boulder County’s moratorium which was initiated by Colorado Attorney General Cynthia Coffman and her staff; which now also includes a couple industry trade organizations: the Colorado Oil and Gas Association and the American Petroleum Institute.

The Longmont Civic Center Council Chambers at 350 Kimbark St. is hosting a study session at 7pm which may give the Longmont city staff some direction about where and when they may have a potential upcoming public forum on oil and gas development for lands under Lonmont’s municipal jurisdiction.
