Amgen Hosts Boy Scouts on Veterans Day

Amgen, a local Boulder county employer in Longmont hosted an annual veterans day flag raising and memorial event to honor American veterans on Monday 11/12/12

Amgen invited local scouts from Superior Boy Scout Troop 278 to conduct the flag raising part of the service.

The scouts gathered at the entrance to Amgen at about 11:30 to run a couple of practice drills and to get organized, and then with many staff and veterans in attendance, moved in a tight formation to raise the flag an honor our veterans.

One of the scouts performed as Troop Bugler, and even performed an excellent and somber Taps at the conclusion of the ceremony.

The local Boy Scout Troops perform many service projects while working towards rank advancement and earning recognition through merit badges.

This service project was just one of many ways the scouts have an opportunity to give to the community, and to learn about civic duty and responsibility.

For many of the scouts, this was a pretty big deal, and while they were perhaps a bit nervous, even at 12 to 14 years old, they have the maturity and practice to keep their composure and complete a ceremony like this with what appears to be relative ease.

Many of these scouts have already worked hard to earn ranks such as 1st Class, Star Scout, and Life Scout on their way to Eagle.

Boulder county has an abundance of scout troops and venturing crews so boys and girls of all ages can participate in the scouting adventure. If you think you’d like to know more about this or other aspects of what’s happening in Boulder, and the surrounding area, I hope I’ll hear from you.
